Rails and Liners

Rails are bands of metal on either side of the mokume band.  Rails are usually soldered on and can be in platinum, 18K yellow gold, 14K palladium white gold, 14K red gold, palladium 950 and palladium 500.

Rails can be added to either a domed or a flat band.

Rails that are round or square and not flush to the band usually sit a little above the mokume.  Rails can also be made flush to the band.  Domed flush rails are tapered down from the mokume.  Square flush rails on flat bands extend out the flat profile.

When you add rails to a comfort fit band you essentially lose the comfort fit of the band and we recommend making the rings either domed half round bands or flat bands.

Rails can also be made with a millgrain edge and are always done with a half round profile.

LINERS:

Liners are not normally needed for comfort or durability.   If you react to sterling silver we would recommend a liner in either gold or platinum.  A liner is a thin inner layer of metal that is added to the inside of a ring.  Our rings are solid mokume; rings are as durable without a liner as with a liner.  Liner material can be platinum or any of the golds that we normally use, palladium 950 or palladium 500. Liners make it easier to read engraving.
